Many new challenges will face community retail pharmacy in 2008 in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, which now account for a significant percentage of the average pharmacy's prescription sales. This session will provide an in-depth discussion of these key government programs, and the current issues of which regional chain pharmacy operators should be aware. These include an update on new features of the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, competitive bidding for DME and pharmacy accreditation requirements, and changes in Medicaid reimbursement, especially for generic drugs.

Medication Therapy Management: Relationships, Challenges, and Successes
Presentation
Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care works with multiple plans around the country—Medicare Part D, employer groups, Medicaid, and others—to implement Medication Therapy Management (MTM) programs. In 2007, Outcomes began working with XLHealth/Care Improvement Plus on a six-state MTM program covering tens of thousands of patients. Winn-Dixie pharmacies have been active participants in Outcomes programs and other MTM opportunities while finding innovative solutions to implementation challenges. This session will discuss the relationship, successes, and challenges between a chain pharmacy organization, a Medicare plan sponsor, and an MTM administration firm.

Third Party Contract Management and A/R Systems
Over the last few years, "Third Party" prescriptions account for over 90% of all prescriptions filled by retail community pharmacies. An average retail pharmacy may participate in hundreds of third party programs governed by complex contract terms including reimbursement limitations including multiple MAC lists, discounts off AWP, administrative charges and audit recoups.
